DAY SIX QUESTION

We would like to know what is your favorite holiday memory from your childhood.

Okay, I know everyone is going to be telling heart-warming tales of joy and love.  Well, everyone but me.  My favorite memory was YEARS ago.  I don’t even know how old I was, I’m assuming about 14.  It was Christmas Eve and it was about 2 in the morning.  I don’t know why, but I decided to head downstairs to watch TV.

My sister is 8 years older and she was just coming in from an evening out (later in my life, I joined her and the rest of my family to go out Christmas Eve.  She walked in and we started chatting about various things sisters talk about.  She had a good buzz on, so she was cracking up at everything I was saying and encouraged, I kept egging her on.

I remember snooping through our stockings, which were filled with pantyhose and blue eyeshadow.  We were cracking up.  Hungry and silly, I started rummaging through the fridge.  I decided on a PBJ and pulled out the home made jam we always have on hand.

It seemed as though we’d had that particular jar longer than advised.  Standing at the fridge, I turned to my sister with the opened moldy jar and said “Us Beechinor’s are beautiful, but we don’t make good jelly!”

I don’t know if anyone else thinks this is funny.  It may not have been funny except for the fact that it was 3 am, I was a kid and she had some beers in her.  Regardless, we both laughed so hard we about peed ourselves.  We decided to eat some Rice Krispies and for reasons we still question today, sat to watch ‘Home Alone’ together.

Whenever I’m asked about the best, funniest or even clumsiest times of my life my stories always involve my sister.  She’s the oldest and I’m the youngest of 4, with 2 boys in between.  We’ve never had to compete because of the age difference, and now that we’re adults, we’re still the best of friends.

From the time I was walking backward into a store while my pregnant sister watched as I fell flat on my ass (made her pee her pants that time, so it was worth it) to another Christmas Eve when I was older and we went to a late night Holiday house party where I fell down about 30 stairs during my grand entrance (in my purple sequined hot pants-yay 90’s!), my sister has been by my side, laughing at me until she peed herself.

That always makes for a good holiday season.  I head North on December 12th for 3 weeks. I’m sure I’ll trip, slip and fall my way into laughter this year and all the years to come.

Sounds like me and my sister! she is 10 years younger than me and we are a lot alike in many ways but at the same time sooooooo different. She has never had to compete with me, but I think she always felt like she had to be different from me.

That was a funny story. I think back to when I was younger and that so could have happened to me too. Only I wasn’t a Beechinor and the jam may have been a different flavor. Well, come to think of it, the jam never lasted in our house, so it probably had to do with something all together different, lmao.
